The UNICEF country programme operates from three geographic areas, defined as “Zones” in Somalia: They are: Hargeisa in the Northwest Zone (NWZ), “Somaliland”; Bossaso in the Northeast Zone (NEZ), “Puntland”and: Baidoa in Central and Southern Zone, (CSZ).

Activities target children in health and nutrition, water supply, sanitation and hygiene and basic education. In addition, the communication, protection and participation programmes has activities that cut across all programme areas including: child protection, HIV/AIDS and youth development.
