The hardest-hit area was a 700-km stretch of Somalia's coastline between Hafun district and the town of Gara'ad in North Mudug region. Fishermen, salt collectors and pastoralists watched helplessly as their fishing equipment was washed away or damaged, salt pans flooded and pastures destroyed.
