Somalia was the first tsunami-affected country to receive food assistance from WFP. Within two days of the disaster, trucks were carrying food aid from a warehouse in the port at Bossaso to Hafun. The 290 kilometre journey was a major challenge. Drivers had to negotiate dunes and washed-out roads. The last 100 km stretch of road took an average of 10 hours to travel, and was only passable by small 12-tonne trucks.
