Housing project underway in Puntland

Programme aims to restore security to Somaliland
The Rule of Law and Security (ROLS) Programme was established in 1997 by UNDP Somalia, in consultation with other UN Agencies and the Somali authorities. The programme aims to contribute to Somali efforts to restore a peaceful and secure environment that will promote social and economic recovery.

Fire engulfs northern IDP camp
In June 2005, at least 2,000 people were left homeless when a fire swept through the Buul Eelaay camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees in the semi-autonomous state of Puntland. Fires in IDP settlements are recurrent in northern Somalia.

WFP demands that pirates release food ship
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) demanded that pirates who commandeered a commercial vessel chartered to transport food aid to 28,000 tsunami survivors in Somalia in Jult 2005, release the ship, its cargo and crew within 48 hours.
